It is with a heavy heart that I write this week.
To have three fatalities in a season would be classed as very unusual; to have three on one day is unheard of.
Following on from the sad death of the Thredbo ski instructor in a recent car crash and Monday evening when a young woman died, the town feels as though it is weighed down with sorrow.
In a small community we cannot help but feel another's loss. For many people, the grief and sorrow may remind them of their own losses, some of which may have lain hidden for months or even years.
Fortunately we have a number of wonderful people who can listen, talk and help anyone who is feeling saddened or low by recent events.
Alpine United Church Pastor, Matthew McBurney, is a trained counsellor, and our GPs are always willing to listen and help.
Nothing can take away the pain of loss for Marissa and Michaela and our hearts go out to them at this very difficult and sad time. We can only offer our support and love.
So many people have spoken of their sadness and shock at the tragic accidents.
We should also spare a thought for the emergency services workers, counsellors and local church ministers who so bravely deal with terrible incidents and help support distraught relatives. They too, need to share the burden from time to time.
Like all those that we lose, we should not forget but rather remember them for the wonderful friend or family member that we liked and loved, the good times that we shared together, those special moments in time and what they gave to us.
Our memories are a living celebration of those we love.
Grief is a very personal matter and everyone of us deals with it in our own way but it is good to know that there are people in our community who care and can help if the burden starts to become too heavy.
They are there for us and we should not hesitate to call them.
