Police divers have recovered the body of a boy, believed to be missing nine-year-old Yadav Munohur, from Gardiners Creek in Melbourne's east.
Construction workers found the body of a boy - 70 metres from where the boy's thongs were found last week - in the creek opposite Kooyong Tennis Centre about 8.10am, police said.
Police divers are at the creek, waiting for forensic officers to arrive.
Sergeant Graham Rodgers said the body had not been formally identified, but that Yadav's parents had been informed.
Gardiners Creek is the waterway near where Yadav went missing on August 7.
A bike rider travelling along a cycling path along the edge of Gardiners Creek said he saw the body of a boy floating in the water.
He said the body appeared to be wearing a blue top and had dark hair.
"He was lying face down in the water, it's a sad end," the rider said.
The rider, who did not want to be named, said that when he first saw the body about 8.30am there were two police officers on the scene.
He said more police had now arrived and were asking passers-by to move on.
The bike rider was travelling along an elevated bike path under the Monash Freeway opposite the back courts of Kooyong Tennis Centre.
He said bike riders had been keeping an eye out for the nine-year-old since he went missing.
"From what I could tell it was definitely a boy's body and the police were gathering all around," he said.
