After a long bus trip to Taralga, the Bushpigs were welcomed by the minor premiers with a cold wind blowing across the field. All players knew that this was the game that they had to focus on, because anything but a win would mean it would be a longer and colder trip back to Jindabyne.
Similar to last time these two teams played, the first 10 minutes had both sides turn over the ball either through drops, knock-ons or in the ruck. Taralga made the most of the strong wind behind them to play the game in Jindabyne's half, but were unable to capitalise on the territory and ball possession.
Nearly against the run of play, the Bushpigs capitalised on some good play at the breakdowns and were the first team to put points on the board.
The strong wind blew the ball off the kicking tee and meant that Jake had to attempt the conversion via a drop goal, which was unsuccessful.
The try appeared to settle the Bushpigs into their natural game and the forwards laid a dominant platform, challenging the Taralga forwards at the ruck and mauls.
As the forwards committed the Taralga forward pack into a physical encounter in the middle of the field, this meant that the backs were able to make the most of any opportunity when the ball was spun wide.
Another try, this time with a successful conversion had the Bushpigs head to half time leading 12-0 with the knowledge that the strong wind was behind them in the second half.
At half time, the captain and coaching staff made sure the team was focused on the second half of the match.
As the Bushpigs started the second half the more dominant team, skipping away to a 17-0 lead, they looked set to be heading to the Grand Final. Taralga then snapped them back into the game through a converted try and a 17-7 score line.
It was at this point that the game could have gone the other way, with Taralga maintaining the pressure and camping once again inside the Bushpigs half.
Against the run of play, and with a clearing kick that came off the side of the boot, Jindabyne appeared to be letting Taralga back into the game.
However, the shocking clearing kick actually sat up for the Bushpigs who were following through. They then capitalised on the favourable bounce and great support play to score another try at the other end of the field.
Another late try saw the Bushpigs win the match 31-7 and continue their winning streak to progress to the Grand Final this weekend against Bungendore.
The big match kicks off at 2.30pm in Bungendore and the Bushpigs would like to see as many supporters as possible try and get there.
Also this weekend the Jindabyne club has two of its junior teams contesting semi finals in Canberra.
