It's Australia's largest equestrian event since the Sydney 2000 Olympic Games and seven girls from Snowy Mountains Grammar School (SMGS) are participating.
The Return of the Horse equestrian series, at the Sydney International Equestrian Centre, Horsley Park, includes the Equestrian Interschools Championships and for the first time SMGS has sent a team who will be among the 400 riders competing from all across NSW to compete in hacking, showjumping, dressage, showman and cross country disciplines.
SMGS Year 10 student Lauren Tomasi is the team's most experienced competition rider and as the current EFA NSW Junior Show Rider, competing at Sydney International Equestrian Centre (SIEC) is no novelty to Lauren. The fun for her is to be with the SMGS team.
"I am really thrilled to be competing as a team, rather than an individual. We will be up against a whole lot of new competition and just to be together is really exciting," Lauren said.
Fellow year 10 students, Leah Foster and Nicole Fleming are also looking forward to the event. Leah, will be tackling the cross country course as one of her events and is excited, if not a little daunted, by taking on the course where the Sydney Olympics were held.
Leah got into her stride last week when she placed second in the local Snowy Mountains One Day Event.
Nicola said that she is most looking forward to meeting lots of new people who come from other areas around NSW.
Team captain, Amy Frost will be competing with her two horses, one in showjumping and the other in the hack and dressage rings.
For year 8 student, Alexandra Poulos, it is the opportunity to ride in Sydney at SIEC that's so exciting.
"Looking on the website it just looks huge," she said before leaving last weekend.
The younger members of the team, Sabrina Mower and Ashleigh Keighley, both in year six, will be competing in dressage, show jumping and hacking.
