On Tuesday, Nicole Parks headed off to Whistler, Canada, for the second time in recent months but the 15 year old was not off to compete in a late season competition.
Along with two of her NSWIS (NSW Institute of Sport) mates, the freestyle mogul skier from Jindabyne will be receiving coaching from national team coach, Steve Desovich, the man who is credited with helping Dale Begg-Smith achieve Olympic gold.
Nicole has few illusions about what faces her in her three week training session with Desovich.
"It's going to be tough," she said.
"I'm expecting early morning starts, a lot of training and a lot of gym work."
But that shouldn't phase Nicole too much as she trains regularly with ex-winter Olympian, Manuela Berchtold, also a freestyle moguls skier.
Manuela said: "Nicole has great drive and determination and you don't get invited on the summer training camps without having potential."
Manuela explained that the extra time spent on snow at the summer training camp, which takes place on a glacier, can make all the difference."
The first week of the recent April school holidays was spent in Lilyvale, Melbourne, at the Winter Sports Club, NSWIS and Olympic team facility, practising the water jumps.
Nicole said: "I am mainly focusing on 360s and the back iron cross."
The freestyle moguls' course comprises three sections with moguls and in between, two jumps where the all important tricks take place.
Nicole has her sights set on as many podiums as possible this coming season after a winter in the northern hemisphere where she made it to the finals of the Europa Cup on her first tour, the first Australian to do so, thanks to help from coach Peter (Toppa) Topolovitch.
Training in Canada and Switzerland was interspersed with competitions including Europa Cup events and the Swiss/Italian Cup where Nicole got a first place from around 30 skiers, only five of whom were Australian.
Happily she also picked up sponsorship from Rossignol two weeks ago, to go with the sponsorship she already gets from Rhythm Snow Sports in Cooma.
