Busy week out on the trails

21/08/2008 3:14:00 PM
NSW cross country race week concluded on Sunday after a fantastic week which included the KAC XC Classic, the Sundeck Handicap, the Charlotte Pass Open on Friday and the Snowy Mountains Classic on Saturday. Sunday was very much ladies day with the ACT Ski de Femme, being held.

The KAC race on Wednesday attracted over 200 participants who skied 8km from Perisher Valley to Charlotte Pass Village.

The outright winners of the Freestyle event were Jindabyne residents and past Olympians Anthony Evens and Carla Zilstra. Second place was taken by rising NSW juniors, Callum Watson and Lucy Glanville, a great result for these young skiers who are products of the NSW XC Junior Development program.

Jindabyne's rising NSW junior, Colby Rook, came in fourth in a strong field.

The KAC Classic race was won by Camille Melvey and David Hislop. Second and third places in the classic women and men's event went to Siobhan Jones (NSW XC Junior Development Team), Clare Brownlee, Mathew Murtagh and Martin Brady respectively. A special mention must also be made of Mavis Morris and Juris Rubis who competed in the U75 and U85 age groups and were the oldest racers in the KAC.

Thanks also went to Charlotte Pass Village for their support of the two XC ski week races. Organisers also thanked the sponsors of cross country week including City Tattersall's (Boonoona Open), all participants of the night relays who raised over $2,500 to assist with the running and maintenance costs of the Nordic Shelter; Cliff Wallis from the Sundeck Hotel (Sundeck Handicap), Snowsports ACT, Kosciuszko Alpine Club (KAC) and its sponsors Paddy Pallin and Sunbeam who run the KAC Classic and Andrew Wenham from Event Supplies who supplies NSW XC with equipment.
