Post winter forum

24/10/2008 2:07:00 PM
A city issues manager from Melbourne will be the guest speaker at this year's post winter season forum, to be held at the Jindabyne Memorial Hall at 7.30pm Monday October 27.

The Melbourne manager, Anne Malloch, has extensive experience dealing with liquor accord issues, safety and liaising with police and will share her experience with the forum.

Ms Malloch will also assist the community to develop a way forward, building on the work already being done by various committed groups and organisations.

The purpose of the 2008 forum is to reflect on the winter season and to hear from members of the community with regard to issues surrounding 'anti-social behaviour', such as littering, crime and vandalism.

An acknowledgment will also be made of the work done by various groups that emerged from the 2005 post winter forum.

These groups include the Jindabyne Liaison Committee, the Season Staff Liaison Committee and the Liquor Retailers Group.

For the past three years the previous mayor hosted the event but this year the Strategic Planning Unit have organised it as part of the Jindabyne Planning Process.

Town Planner, Liz Rankin, said: "We recognise that there are urban design and planning issues that relate to these matters."

Council is in the process of developing an action plan for Jindabyne which it says will enhance Jindabyne as a place to live and visit.

"This is a chance for council to engage with the community and discuss these issues," Mrs Rankin said.

"Even though this seems to have been a relatively good year you can't afford to be complacent and you have to keep your finger on the pulse," she added.

The forum is scheduled to run until 9.30pm and tea and coffee will be provided.

16/12/2008 | So we now have desperate parents attempting to bribe teachers to get their children into a selective high school. What a sad indictment of our education policies, the holy grail of which is parental choice.
