THE stallholders may have been few but the 8th Annual Snowy Mountains Regional Food Fair was a resounding success.
More than 1,300 visitors to the Dalgety Showground treated their taste buds with 25 speciality stall holders offering a variety of scrumptious local produce.
Though down on last year, the stalls were a success with stall holders kept on their toes and many selling out before the day was done.
Feedback pointed to the drought and increasing fuel costs keeping some stall holders at home but luckily the show went on without them.
Unlike last year, the weather on the day helped to make the setting on the banks of the Snowy River ideal for the foodie's paradise.
The relaxed atmosphere was only added to by the music of David Hibbert and Jay McMahon who entertained the visitors as they strolled the stalls.
A competition was held on the day for the best sweet and savoury delights in a jar, both sections attracted a number of entrants but R Guthrie walked away with the prizes.
R Guthrie's tomato relish took out top spot in the savoury section and in the sweet section the judges couldn't go past the blackberry and apple jam.
Runners up in the savoury section were Disaster Bay's spicy kasoundi, Leslie Smith's relish and Cool Country Cousin's eggplant and capsicum chutney.
In the sweet section R Guthrie also took out equal second with plum and raspberry jam, while Cool Country Cousin's nectarine and orange preserve and Cranky Pants' quince jelly took out equal second and third respectively.
With the difficult but rewarding task of judging were Garry and Karen Hooley from the South East Producers Network and Sapphire Coast producers.
The Food Fair would not have been such a success without organiser and coordinator Mrs Julie Pearson.
Sponsors for the event were the Snowy River Shire Council, the Bombala Shire Council, Snowy Mountains Agricultural Speciality Producers Association, NPWS, Perisher Blue and Sustain Magazine.
