First ultrasound service comes to Jindabyne

First ultrasound service comes to Jindabyne

25/07/2008 10:10:00 AM
Jindabyne has a new medical service that will be welcomed by mums to be but also has additional benefits for everyone else.

Experienced sonographer, Nina Tillet, has started Snowy Mountains Ultrasound and is renting a room at Nugget's Crossing Medical Practice.

For local mums to be the new service will mean a cost saving as they won't need to go to Cooma Hospital for their ultrasound.

Ms Tillet said: "I live in Jindabyne and I wanted to work locally and so I went and bought my own machine."

After the examination is completed the pictures are sent over the internet to a radiologist and the report is sent back the following day. There is more good news too.

"I am going to try bulk billing for a year to see how it works," Ms Tillet said.

She is hoping that with sufficient numbers she will be able to maintain her bulk billing status.

But Ms Tillet is keen to emphasise that ultrasound isn't just for pregnant mums.

"Ultrasound is very good at showing up internal bleeding, gall stones, vascular or soft tissue problems."

It is being used to help guide cortisone injections into the right spot and in the future Ms Tillet hopes to do IVF examinations as well.

She will also travel to Bombala one day a week as residents there have never had an ultrasound service before.

Ms Tillet has 18 years experience in ultrasound and trained at the Children's Hospital in Sydney.
